Our Mission
Barber Below is a queer-owned, gender-neutral barbershop in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. We created it to challenge the traditions and assumptions that can make conventional barbering spaces feel uncomfortable or inaccessible.
We understand that visiting a barbershop can feel daunting, particularly when you’ve previously felt judged, misunderstood or limited by gendered expectations. At Barber Below, everyone is welcome. Our services aren’t divided by gender, and we won’t make assumptions about who you are or how your hair should look.

Our barbers work with different hair lengths, types and textures using scissors, clippers and razors. Every appointment begins with a conversation about your hair, your style and what you would like to achieve. You don’t need to know the correct terminology—reference pictures, Pinterest boards and rough ideas are all welcome.
Hair can be an important part of identity and self-expression. Whether you want your haircut to feel more masc, femme, androgynous or simply more like you, we’ll listen and work with you to create something that feels right.
